Recapping May 2019

Last day of School Party
Dress like a character from a book.

Totaled the car.
Back to car shopping.. again.
No one was hurt...

No humans were hurt.
Neither the deer nor the car survived.

Branding at the ranch

I entertained some smallish children with alka seltzer, film canister rockets while others gathered, sorted, roped and branded new calves.

I experienced a small bra fiasco... for a personal blog post regarding brassiere woes

We sneaked away for an hour to renew our passports since that was the day the passport officials came to town this year.

We potted flowers with our friends at the retirement center and Duncan attended the Mother's day tea.  He sang with some friends and helped with the food serving.

Our consolation for being denied sheep and goats this year was that I took the boys to pick up some chicks.  That night, Moppet managed to get past all our barricades and killed three of the five.  So I ordered more.
Patrick picked them up 2 weeks later, plus ten more chicks and 3 geese!
Happy Mother's day to me!

The geese have been a surprisingly delightful addition to the fowl arena.

Miles was asked to accompany the middle school's choir performance of 'Cibola'.  His first response was, "Who told the choir director I play the guitar??"  We all denied telling him.  Of course we did point out that he plays at the library, the retirement center, the rec center lobby, the church foyer on mutual night.  We also see the choir director at church every Sunday.  It wasn't a well kept secret!  As it turns out it was a fellow bluegrass band group member that was asked to play are recommend a second guitarist, 'Bob'.  Bob told Miles it would be a good way for him to meet girls.  Miles pointed out that he was a high school graduate and these were 6th and 7th graders.  The choir director, who also spent months with the 'Singin' in the rain cast', did announce him as Duncan Noble... and then immediately realized his error and said... No... this is his little brother... .. older brother.  Let's just sing!

A beautiful Sun shiny Saturday!!
We worked while the sun shone.  We finally organized the barn.  It has been soooo nice to know where things are.
Some worked themselves to.. sleep.  It may have been a very.. very.. very... long day!

Bear prepared for Spring/Summer in celebration of the final day of high school for Miles and Summer break for Duncan.
We set up the trampoline and the boys played baseball and flew a kite!

Boys take advantage of warmer temps. when they don't want to wait for the bathroom.
hmmm...

Birds are thrilled to have even the seeds the spilled when we filled the feeders.
We need to fix the broken feeder.

Emerson embracing the Wyoming ways.
A pop gun and red, button flap long-johns with cowboy boots.

The next morning.
I crawled back into bed, with extra blankets.  Ordered hot cocoa from room service but they all called in 'snowed in' their own beds.  We lit the fire again after a 3 day cold stove and hunkered back in for..

...the return of eternal winter.

Whittaker began archery through the local 4-H program in April.  It's also on Wed. between cub scouts and mutual. (I'm sooo grateful that everything is on Wednesday!!)
After 6 weeks he competed in his first tournament.

He won grand championship for his division!  He was over the moon excited. (Still doesn't understand why we aren't more amazed.... he was the only one in the beginner division!)  It has been a good experience and helps him to focus and work on not getting distracted so easily.  His aim has improved also but it's not why I signed him up.

After our trip to Utah, I returned with some trees and plants.  I put them in the greenhouse and turned on the heat lamps.  They froze.
The next day we brought the sad, shriveled up trees (27 of them) into the house.  Our kitchen is now a forest.

We bundled up and worked on the greenhouse.  We sealed gaps and looked for any holes that needed to be patched.  It keeps a consistent 15 degrees warmer inside now than outside.  But nights are still around 30, so we kept the trees inside and prepared the soil for the glimpse of warm weather people speak of.  As of June 2nd, the trees are now in the greenhouse again.. a month later.  Twenty of them survived and are still alive.  whew!

The snow finally melted and stopped falling.  And the rain came tumbling down... all day... every day for a week... so we built a boardwalk to get around on the property.  We ordered gravel for the muddy driveway.  Irony... they can't drive the dump trucks out here because.... it's too muddy.  So we wait.

Thanks to some FABULOUS new shelving, we completely organized our lives.  The barn, the greenhouse and now the garage.
The shelves are all on wheels... I can move fully loaded shelving all by myself.

Miles started a new job working in the local bakery. ..  we'll see how the boy with the internal bedtime clock fares with getting up at 2am.  Soon I'll get a photo of him at his employment... soon as in when he works a shift not in the wee hours and when I'm already in town.  Until then, we just hear about cookies, cakes, doughnuts, breads, and brownies baked in mass quantities.

Thanks to a few warmer days, my hot cocoa intake was at a measly 27 cups this month.
