The Name Game -- Emerish

Emerson has been capable of getting out attention and conveying his every desire without actually using our names.  He has close to 100 words and jabbers on all the time, about very important subjects I'm sure, we're just not always privy to the interpretations of his Emerish.

I've been really trying to teach him to say Whittaker.  I think Whittaker might be pleased to be called by name and it could go a long way in helping those two form a friendship of sorts.  So I spend a lot of the day telling Emerson to give such and such to WHITTAKER, or let's play with WHITTAKER and especially we send Whittaker to hide just so that we can wander the house and tell Emerson to call for "WHITTAKER, Where are you WHITTAKER?!"

So far the other day as we attempted a game of who is it with Emerson, when we point to someone and ask him to name them we heard the following.  When pointing to myself, "Mumma", to Sarah, "Zaza", to Duncan, "Dunk", to Cooper, "Boober", to Whittaker, "Tikki"....  To which Whittaker replied, "Am I Tikki?" and then he laughed hysterically and refers to himself as 'Tikki' now.

Perhaps naming shouldn't be rushed nor considered the basis for a friendship.
