Warning... Paige requested the following story be told before the more pleasant ones.... And I do aim to please.... even if I have to post photos of the unexpected...
Some rush to the Doctor's office for everything, not I. Some believe everything their Dr's say, not I. Some people let the Dr.'s request all the tests and be the experts. Not I.
While we were going to the Dr.'s office every few days for tests, results, follow ups, weight checks and well anything else the Dr. ordered for Whittaker to try to figure out why he wasn't gaining, the Dr. began to order some tests that we thought odd. Namely a sweat test. Whittaker could sweat. That wasn't in question. Any and every time he nursed he would break out into a sweat. That alone was odd. (our theory currently is that he simply burns calories faster than he can take them in.. but not the point to my tale) So, Dr. ordered the sweat test. We questioned why? She nonchalantly said, "Oh, it's a test for cystic fibrosis." I'm sure it was said nonchalantly to keep us from panicking. It didn't work. Dr. doesn't know me or my affliction with 'google'.
We hadn't been home long enough to take off my shoes and coat or take Whittaker out of his car seat before my trusted sidekick google was in search mode for sweat tests and cystic fibrosis. (this is a big component as to why I don't have a data plan on my cell phone.... I'd forever be verifying quotes and statistics and looking up essentially everything... ) so. I learned very quickly in my googling that the sweat test is only done as a test for cystic fibrosis. Another test that the Dr. wasn't prescribing was the fecal fat test. uh... well... ok. yes I totally looked more into that one.
The next poopy diaper was eagerly anticipated. And the results....
Unfortunately, although I knew that the test was to find the percentage of fat absorption, I didn't know how to figure out the results.. I didn't twig to that until after I had filled the sink with water and plopped the fecal sample into it.
It floated... then it began to dissolve... some oily substance did appear to be separating from the sample....
But I wasn't sure if those were things we wanted it to do or not.....
So I took photos, just in case the Dr. needed to order the test in the future... I would be ready with my results for her. Then we bleached the sink...
So far the Dr. hasn't requested my lab results...

New Guinea
I am an open and inviting person. Mi casa es su casa! Or so I thought. I have free range chickens most of the year... still trying to figure out how to have free range chickens, small children and a garden in the same space... The ladies and we have a lovely time. They eat the bugs and weeds. They scratch at my soil in the garden beds and create great mulch. Since allowing them free range we have become even closer. They have mastered stairs up onto the back deck. Some have been brave enough to peek in the back door. They often peek into the bedroom windows to Mum's great delight. Something about chickens waking you outside your window making all right with her world??
Duncan parades around the back yard with the compost bucket in his hands for a long time chatting with the ladies and they follow him up and over the mountain, around the sandbox, through the garden and finally to the coop where he deposits the compost in their box. They are most grateful for his tours I'm sure! I must film it even though I still don't have any sound capabilities on my video.
Yesterday we noticed that our neighbour had a new guinea fowl. It was wandering loose in their yard. A tinge of jealousy surfaced and then I moved on with my life. Ridiculous jealousies over fowls are not permitted. Until this morning. This morning we awoke to discover that we also had a guinea fowl in our yard wandering. Oh.. wait... not also. Just us and not the neighbour. The kids learned that the fowl wasn't the neighbours, he had been surprised by it's appearance also.
Miles was working on a bird badge in boy scouts and Duncan's science lesson yesterday involved going outside to observe the birds in neighbourhood. He is studying Jane Goodall and learning about observing animals to learn about them. I believe that since the boys needed a bird to study and they didn't think the chickens that we already had and the magpies and ducks that we see flying overhead all the time were exciting enough to make case studies out of... since obviously they already know all about them.... a guinea fowl showed up for the day to fulfill their needs! We googled guinea fowls and learned about their origins and what they eat and like... We didn't bother however to listen to the online sound file of the sound they make when they are nervous because..... well.... we already knew!
We've been serenaded at our door off and on all day. I wish I could say it was like a mariachi band and the kids and I would have done a Mexican hat dance out there with him/her... instead it was like a never ending car alarm..... we tried to feed it since we have some fowl food in order to make it happy but anytime we got close it spooked. We left the bowl out for it but we haven't seen it since dinner time now. Perhaps another family needs a day of bird observing tomorrow.
Just a note to say....
Today we had a lesson about the proper way to write a note or letter.
Greeting,
Body of message written in clear and concise sentences.

I required 3 different notes to be sure that it was understood. We gave MANY examples! It took all afternoon to convince Duncan to write something other than,
Dear (insert any girl in his class at church name here)
I like you.
your friend,
Duncan
then I had to go to the Dr. office with Whittaker and on the 30 minute drive I composed my own.
Dear Spring,
I love the green buds on the trees. I love to wake to the sound of the chirping birds. I love that the daffodils and tulips have finally made an appearance. I have enjoyed the warm sunlight and being able to walk outside without having to wear all my clothes at once. I enjoy sitting outside with the baby on a blanket while I type up blogs watch my children play. I am so glad that you have arrived.
I was however unprepared for today's rain. It was very wet. I forgot my umbrella. I was grateful that I had my leaky roof repaired last week though, so that the rain was only outdoors this time. Tomorrow I think I will check the weather report before leaving the house in open toed shoes.
Drenched,

Doesn't anyone care anymore?
There used to be a time when a lack of a blog from me for over three days would make people rush to their phone to see if all was well in Noble land!! But I guess you really can cry wolf too much? TEN days without a blog and pretty inconsistent before that! One might not believe it but there was a time when I didn't blog.... like I mean... ever!!! REALLY!
Ok.. so everyone likely believes it... but would you believe that I have actually been so so so so so very busy for the last... can't even think how long that I don't even think in blog anymore. I used to see day to day moments as great blog posts and couldn't wait until I could get to the computer to document them... Now.. not so much... not that they aren't happening, but I'm feeling much busier!.... Here's a collage of things I have YET to blog about from the last 30 days!
And the stories to go with the photos are as varied as the photos themselves... Wish me luck... cause that's just the recent backlog...if I start to look at the last year's missed backlogs, then I start to think about the other years before I was blogging and all the things I wished I had been documenting and then I spiral downward and worry I'll never get it done... and that's just not a pretty picture... me spiraling downward.... so I will look up... and not make any promises... to me or anyone else! I will just publish this and see what happens next!
Honestly... I'm just happy to have something new at the top of my blog finally!

The Trouble with Service
Caleb came home from Seminary one morning a while back and shared a little thought with us.
"Service is like peeing your pants. Others may see what you have done, but only you get that warm feeling!"
The inspirational blogger (Janet) issued a challenge to write about service. The deadline was today.... I missed it.. but that's ok. What struck me was her sentence about what isn't written down will be forgotten. So I write.
There are so many people trying to give service at Christmas that sometimes it overlaps. I believe that no good deed is ever a mistake. There was a time that gifts were left for our family on our doorstep in a year where things had been rather lean... We always wanted to do that for someone else. With discussion we found it difficult to figure out how to approach finding a deserving recipient. Discussion wasn't necessary. The opportunity presented itself. A friend lost his job the week before Christmas. Although we weren't in a great position, our Christmas was finished and we wanted to do what we could. The parents said they were fine and not to worry. So on the 23rd, we kidnapped the kids and took them to the D.I. We told them to find an item to secretly give to each other and that they could find something to give to their parents. It would be on us. The older teenager went with Caleb to the dollar store down the street to pick up some surprises for his little siblings. I was to pick them up in 30 minutes to pay for their purchases.
As we left the D. I. I had 6 children in tow and we were going through the checkout. The lady was friendly and when it came time for her to tell me the total, she smiled and said, "Merry Christmas". I said, "Merry Christmas" and waited. She smiled and repeated, "Merry Christmas" I asked for the total. And the reply, "it's been taken care of by someone today"
Someone had arranged to cover the purchases at that till for the afternoon. I mean, if you're already having to do your shopping on the day before Christmas eve and you're shopping at the D.I. to have your purchases covered was very sweet. But I was feeling a little confused. This was supposed to be my service and now I hadn't really done anything, the service fairy had.
We all piled into our old VW vanagon and drove to the dollar store to pick up the big boys. We all went in. I paid for the very few things they had decided on and still felt a little like there had to be something more we could do. When we returned to the van, I discovered to my delight and dismay, an envelope on my seat! (yes my seat.. no point locking my door, when the other doors don't lock!) an envelope filled with cash (a wad of $20's), written on the front - Pay it forward if and when you can. I must have looked like the sort that needed it... with now 8 children piling out of an old VW vanagon the day before Christmas eve in front of the dollar store, but I was the one trying to give the service.
As we returned to my house to wrap their finds I found myself shaken! Someone was out to thwart my service efforts!! How dare they! But then my children were more in tune than I was. While the others were wrapping their gifts, they reminded me that maybe this service fairy was just using me as a tool. Since we didn't need the cash, or to have our purchases paid for, it was a way to help our friend even better. We left the envelope with our cash added to it on the seat of their car when we dropped off their children. We had been the delivery fairy... and were honestly able to tell the parents that 'WE' had not been responsible!
and what of self serving service??
In Texas, many moons ago we had some friends... I'll call them Shumways. They had a cool spanish hacienda type house. It had this problem though. When it rained as it does in TX, the down pouring would flood the front entry courtyard area. With extremely clay soil.. it didn't soak away very quickly and so it would be a swampy flooded entry much of the winter rain time. After picking up Shumz for Seminary and watching him slog through the wetness or we would have to wade up to the front door... We took it upon ourselves to arrive one Christmas evening bearing gifts. We had a grand visit and fun evening, as was to be expected anytime one visits with Shumways. (I think we even brought goodies) What gifts could we possibly bring that would make me write such an ordeal up under the guise of service?? We each brought them a large stepping stone brick wrapped in brown paper bags!
So as I said... self serving service... who were we really giving the bricks to? The Shumways? or ourselves so we didn't get wet coming to the door? However, either it stopped raining in TX, or I soon left for Ricks (BYU-ID -for those who know it nowadays), or the bricks didn't solve the problem anyway, because I don't even remember if they were used! Nor do I truly know how the Shumways felt after the crazy Christmas brick elves left. (probably that we were a few bricks shy of a full load!)
So.. as for feeling that warm feeling of service trickling down my leg.... The kids and I are ever on the lookout for an opportunity.

The word flexibility brings to mind only positive thoughts. Being flexible in life is good. Flexible to change. Flexible in the way one thinks. Flexible with time and schedules. Flexibility in day to day living. Flexibility in desires of food and tastes in many areas of life. Flexibility is an attitude.
Flexibility describes Eden.... and now more than ever!

"Big Brother"
Well well well Sparky, what a fuss you're going to to find out a few things! Sending out a mass mailing to the entire nation asking personal questions. If you want to know something just call.... or now that you're a big mucky muck, census bureau employee is that not how it's done.
I think if you've forgotten our names you should just own up and admit it!
Mum and I have been looking over census records lately, giddy with the availability of the 1930's census... we give you complete credit for making that available to us so soon! But then the census envelope arrived. Actually first came a warning letter that a census letter was going to arrive. What is with that? Is it like royalty that needs to be announced? I threw it away... the warning letter not the census... I hope that wasn't a violation of something.
But we ran into a dilemma as we were filling out the form and thought since we know someone in the bureau maybe we could get some help. You see Mum is visiting. She was here on April 1st exactly. The 1st question stated, "How many persons are in the dwelling on April 1st." The next question, "Any additional persons, not included in question one?" ??? This strikes me as redundant as an announcing letter for a census letter! But back to the dilemma... Mum... she is here. And she wouldn't be counted anywhere else because she is here. So visiting relative could be checked, except... she's visiting from another country... and the form clearly states.... U.S. Census... So do you want to know if Mum is visiting or not? And couldn't I just text you or call you... besides you already know she is here!
You haven't been working there long so I'll give you some slack... but I hope you've got it all streamlined by 2020!

April Showers
April Showers are supposed to bring May flowers.
One thinks of showers as light rains watering the soil and urging spring to come. One does not envision inches of snow to wake to and gloomy skies. It makes one wish they could stay in bed under the cozy covers.
But one must get up and go on. One must see how the handiwork of the night before is playing out. One decided to play pranks at a very late hour and has a difficult time stifling her laughter.
April.... in like a lion and out like a lamb... is that the other saying for April? I think so. I guess this is the lion roaring it's way in. Snowstorms, sick kids, late nights, sick grandma, no groceries, dirty dishes, Dr. appt.'s, and late blogs.
late blogs... a phenomenon really... a few years ago I wasn't plagued with the concern of a late blog and now I feel overwhelmed by the backlog of blogs.
Of an ever growing backlog of blogs.
April has birthdays.
April 1st has birthdays!
*Paige, the quintessential fool... she spent the day with Christ... well... in a reenactment of Christ's crucifixion. She provided the llama's.
*Ava, I will meet this niece! I will meet this niece! I will meet this niece!
April has other birthdays!
*Clairee, soon to be big sister Clairee. Sarah can't get enough of Clairee. Two years... too fast!
*Sparky, what could be next? go to byu, check. serve mission, check. get married, check. have two adorable girls, check. finally finish the Phd, check. Get a big wig job back east, check... we'll just sit here and wait with baited breath for what 'cream cheese' will do next!
*Rob, I'm definitely going to have to hound Patrick for not keeping in touch better with his side of the family. I seem to have my finger in every one's business on my side of the family and can write all sorts of drivel about them... even if I'm making it up.. but not quite as easy on the Noble side. Rob fill us in on the details of life in the mid-west.
Easter is coming faster than the speed of a thousand blogs that's for sure!
Lot's to do... no time to do it!
