The Old Guy

Grow up already would you!

Some people just don't know when it's time to quit working and going, going, going.  At this age you are supposed to be sitting on the front porch sipping your lemonade and listening to the crickets.
But you have a rebellious streak in you!

Still gardening to beat the band!

Still camping and traveling!

Still actively involved and I hear still accepting requests to sing at the lodge!

Learning to do family history.

Still learning all these new fangled computer things... (facebook, blogging, and emails..) I think you'll have my Mum outsmarted soon!

Wait..... maybe here you were just reminiscing???

I only hope to be,
as young as you when I'm 93!

Happy Birthday Great Uncle Lloyd!

Congratulations and be Prosperous

It is the year of the ox. It is the beginning of the Chinese New Year. It's just another excuse to blog!

We don't have any ties or history to link us back to China except that of studying other cultures and enlightening ourselves to other ways. Besides it's kind of interesting..

Today is the first of 15 days that usher in the New Year. Some of the customs for the first day of the new year.... don't eat meat, write a short positive message and display it in your home... examples are... 'Be prosperous' or 'Health and Kindness for the New Year to all' Do not use knives or light fires... Get together with family. On the first day of the New Year it is customary to visit with the oldest living relative..... but since that's not really possible... since I only learned about the custom today and he's 1000 miles away... I think I'll alter the custom and just blog about him instead!

So this blogs for you Lloyd!

Lloyd is my great-uncle... or my dad's father's brother. He's a nonagenarian... for those not as enlightened that means he's in his nineties... He was born 1917? He is an active guy! Rides a motorbike. He has long been a member of the Mason association as have many an ancestor before him. He enjoys camping and took my mother on a 5000 mile RV genealogical expedition just last summer! He's a professional camper I hear as well! He has an adventurers spirit and a great smile! He has recently taken on the computer with a vengeance and although he's a two fingered typist he is amazing at the speed and retention in all matters computer related! He is also a very avid gardener. Currently building a greenhouse and preparing for a great planting year!

Unfortunately that is about all I myself currently know about the old guy!... that and that he inspires many including my mother! She has fulfilled a life long dream of going to Scotland due to his inspiration. She tells me he is full of great tales so I hope he'll share some with us. His history is one to be studied so that we all might some day be happy old guys too!
Mum tells me she'll fill me in when she can this week, so this blog will have to be a 'project in progress'.. so feel free to check back she tells me there are photos.... and tales to tell!... I'm looking forward to it too!
